HSDPA Ultra Slider

The Samsung U700 combines an ultra slim slide-up with super fast HSDPA technology for ultimate performance. Equipped with a 3.2 Megapixel camera for still photography and video capture, and a second VGA camera for 3G-enabled video telephony, this sleek 12.1 mm thin handset is at the top of its class.

The 12.1mm thick device hides HSDPA high-speed data, as well as a 3.2 megapixel camera for photography on the go. Storing images is a snap with the microSD memory card slot, which can also be used for saving your music library. A full HTML browser is also included, making great use of the data connection. The great looking device also includes a 2.2″ QVGA resolution display, showing up to 262k colors.

The 3.9 x 1.9 x 0.55 inches and 3.35oz it’s neither the lightest nor smallest handset, but the Gleam will get attention because of the EV-DO and 1xRTT high-speed internet access, full-featured Bluetooth and support for Verizon’s V CAST music and video download services. All that media and browsing takes place on a bright, impressively crisp 2.1-inch, 240 x 320 262k colour QVGA internal screen. Contrast is rich and streaming TV really shows off how far Samsung’s display technology has progressed.

A powerful slider that is all about style

Bedecked with exquisite jewel-toned colors that give the mobile a look of distinction and sophistication.

The SGH-U600 is about as slim and sleek as any slider I’ve seen. It is fairly narrow at 49.3mm, though a bit tall at 103.2mm. The blue metallic casing with silver highlights is rather appealing, and the slider mechanism is smooth. It is spring loaded so you don’t need much oomph at all to open and close the phone. There is no ridge for attacking the slider, so you will need to be prepared to wipe fingermarks off the screen.

The front of the phone is almost completely flat. The d-pad is slightly raised in the middle, making it very comfortable to access. Unlike the d-pad, the soft keys and dial/hang-up keys are all touch-sensitive, making it possible to have them mounted on a completely flat surface. The clear plastic used on the front of the phone is much stronger than that of the D900 - pressing on the hard surface won’t result in any distortion of the screen image.

The dial/hang-up buttons are not backlighted, whereas the softkeys and d-pad have a very attractive white backlight behind them. Since these buttons are touch-sensitive, they are not the most reliable in use. Samsung added in the function of having the softkeys blink when accessed. This doesn’t rectify the fundamental problem with touch keys, but it might allow users to be more confident with these non-mechanical buttons. All touch sensitive keys are automatically locked during phone conversations, so they shouldn’t pose a problem when the user’s face touches them.

When it comes to using the phone, the interface is virtually identical to other Samsung Ultra Edition models in the range and it’s fairly easy to navigate your way around the interface regardless of what phone you’ve used before.
Picture quality whether it’s video or still photos is very good and easily equal to Sony Ericsson’s K800 series, however the U600 doesn’t come with the same focus on design.
The camera for example, is only revealed once the slider is open - very similar to their D600 from all those years ago and the digital camera does take some time to boot up once you’ve pressed the token shutter button on the side of the handset.

The World’s Thinnest 3G Phone

This UMTS phone offers the sleekest lines with dual cameras including 2.0 Megapixel and VGA, MP3 player, and MicroSD external memory. Add super convenient uSearch and super cool B&W GUI to this smart, immaculately-designed and high-performing EDGE-based gem.

Samsung SGH Z370 - possessing an ultra slim depth of only 8.4 mm and weighing a mere 71 grams, the Ultra Edition 8.4 is the world’s slimmest 3G handset and now sets the standard against which all others can be compared. This mobile houses a large landscape 1.93?TFT display with dual 2 megapixel and VGA cameras, making it the perfect accessory for those that love 3G video calling or can’t help but take the occasional self portrait. Capable of playing music with multiple audio formats and JAVA-enabled games, this connected candy bar is perfect for the entertainment lover in all of us. The document viewer, speaker phone, micro-SD card slot and host of PIM functions ensure that there’ll always be time for work as well as play.

Like previous Ultra Edition phones, the number in the model name denotes the thickness of the handset. Thus, in the case of the Ultra Edition 8.4, the mobile measures just 8.4mm. While it may not be as thin as its Ultra Edition 6.9 predecessor, we like that it feels a lot less flimsy. Combined with the solid build quality of the handset, we certainly had no qualms when putting the 8.4 in the back pocket, unlike the 6.9 which somehow felt like it would break under stress.

To better differentiate the new trio of 3G Ultra Editions from the first-generation lineup (unveiled during CommunicAsia 2006), the 8.4 will be offered in silver. This is a conservative yet refreshing change from the black in the original series and should appeal to the mass market audience. That said, there are just too many silver handsets in the market today. Given a choice, we hope to see the 8.4 being introduced in more vibrant colors.

d900i.jpg

Preserve your memories with the built-in video camera recording in 352 x 288 resolution with voice. At 30 frame per second, this camera is compatible with H.263 and MPEG4 video formats. Capturing life’s special moments is a snap with the embedded 3 megapixel camera. Outfitted with auto focus, flash, 4X digital zoom, and a mirror for self-portraits, your pictures will always come out looking great.

The Samsung SGH-D900i is a mid-range, quad-band slider-phone that finds much strength in its simplicity. Designed for professionals and the style-conscious, it fits function with “must-have” features (such as a music player and camera) into one of the slimmest form-factors on the market. Weighing in at 93g, the SGH-D900i has been designed for single-handed use, with its sliding front-panel revealing a spacious keypad with a flick of the thumb. The slightly raised keys on the sides provide quick access to the camera and volume features of this phone, alongside discreet slots for a MicroSD card and Samsung earphones/charger.

Like a Fashion Week catwalk model, the Samsung SGH-D900i garners most of its appeal from being super-skinny, shiny, and appearing to have not much on. Having most of the keys hidden away under its thin, sliding face is a definite aesthetic boon; given that the menu and contacts can be navigated without sliding the phone open, the Samsung SGH-D900i can be appreciated at its smallest the majority of the time. However, the Samsung’s sleek lines and mirror-finish have a fatal flaw — while looking gorgeous in the box, it only takes a few uses to develop a scratch or two and a grubby layer of smudges. Sadly, you cannot imagine the Samsung SGH-D900i ageing gracefully.

The Samsung SGH-D900i has thrown in its all with its 3MP camera and video recording mode. There are oodles of ways you can get more creative with your photos, beyond changing more conventional shooting options such as ISO and white balance. Included are effects such as sepia and black-and-white, plus the sort of frames that would be at home in a Japanese sticker-photo machine. The camera and video include 4x digital zoom and auto-focus. Thankfully, the quality of the photos can be matched by Samsung’s 2-inch, 262k-colour QVGA TFT screen, which is bright and displays crisp images.

Tucked away amidst the Applications are a Music Player, Voice Recorder and FM Radio. All of which are best enjoyed when using the provided Samsung headphones, unless you’re one of those types that mercilessly belts tunes on the train, to the chagrin of everyone else. The Music Player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, and e-AAC+ audio formats and can also play through Bluetooth-enabled speakers.

Ultra Cool Style

The Ultra Edition 9.6’s dual folder has a brushed metal body that gives it a cool look. Measuring only 9.6 mm in depth, this clamshell mobile squeezes in a fully functioning 3.2 Megapixel camera that shoots stunning photographs and video.

The SGH-U300 misses out on 3G data, but does sport GPRS/EDGE and tri-band GSM connectivity in addition to the on board Bluetooth with A2DP stereo headset support. The handset boasts a bright 2.2″ internal display, and like all newer Samsung handsets, has a QVGA resolution. Shooting above its size, the SGH-U300 includes a 3.2 megapixel camera, which is a great addition. Despite its great features, the Samsung SGH-U300 measures up at just 9.6mm (0.4″) thick.
