Big On Multimedia, Slim In Format

The SGH-X820 is just like you – it delivers top performance anywhere, any time. Work through your PowerPoint presentations using the document viewer. With the offline mode, you can even work. You can print out your files using wireless Bluetooth® printing or view them on screen using the TV-out cable. That way, not only will your figures look better – so will the photos you’ve taken with the integrated 2.0-megapixel camera. You can close your eyes and relax to your favourite tunes. The inbuilt MP3 player – which plays AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+ and WMA formats – will transform even seat 35 D into a box at the concert hall.

As the world’s thinnest phone, the Samsung SGH-X820 is an amazing device: It is as good at making calls and surfing the Web as it is at turning heads. It makes the Motorola SLVR L7 look like a brick, and puts other thin phones to shame with its 2-megapixel camera and elegant, fun interface. The super-slim profile means you must forgo a memory card slot, and the battery life is on the low side for a GSM phone. The coup de grace: It’s available only through independent retailers.

At first glance, the X820 appears to be slightly wide by proportion; the actual measurements are 113mm x 50mm x 6.9mm (4.45″ x 1.97″ x 0.27″). The design is minimalist, and the only part that stands out is the metal stripe around the earpiece and the flashy Anycall logo underneath. The whole body is completely black, which seems to be the Samsung color this year. Many of my female friends have commented how they would have wanted it in white or pink. The dark color might look too serious, but with the thinness and overall design, I think it can still slide elegantly into a purse. The phone edges are slightly curved, making the grip a comfortable one. The weight spreads evenly over the device, and the anti-slip finishing at the back allows the thin body to sit steadily on your palm.
